It seems that creative minds think alike. I yesterday received an email from CambridgeCreatives.org who launched their website at almost exactly the same time as I set-up cambridgecreatives.com.
Despite my obvious bias, I think the site I've set-up is more likely to expand. The .org site is a series of so called 'static' pages built using DreamWeaver and would therefore need someone to edit HTML files to make updates.
The .com site is database application where people can add themselves, (and edit themselves too shortly after I've finished this), which means it's easy for every creative type in Cambridge to sign-up.
Apart from the behind-the-scenes issues to do with managing the website though, another reason why I think the .com might creep ahead is that at the moment a search for 'Cambridge Creatives' on Google finds the .com website right at the top of 101,000 results.
Of course, 'Cambridge Creatives' might not be the most used search term when people are looking for designers, illustrators and photographers, but if it's no.1 for a term after just a few days there's every chance it will start to match a number of other terms too.
I need to make a few minor changes to the database on the cambridgecreatives.com website and plug-in a user-access area to allow people to update their information.
I then need to do some work on the revamped traffic reports on this site before installing them on too. back later...
I'm not sure if I ever will spoil this site with 3rd party ads, but the layout has been conceived to allow big fat banners here.
Perhaps I should start advertising 'Create your own version of this website for just £9.99 a month!'
Any takers? Enquiries by email please.
