Images
I know there are image gallery widgets out there that are pretty good, but I just don't like them all that much.

Well the latest image upload function seems to be working. Now it's time to enter the lab and see if we can come up with a nice gallery-style viewer. note to self - check: 'add to top' and 'position'.
So far so good
The basics are in place but there are a number of things to be changed or added. The images need to be smaller so that they fit on the average screen without creating huge vertical scrollbars, and to allow for a text panel to the side or perhaps below depending on the aspect - portrait or landscape.
It might also be useful to pre-load the images in JavaScript and eventially to have a control file for the ordering and a few other options - back to work now though.
New Gallery
The images uploaded to this page have been automatically added to a new image gallery that I've been dipping in and out of over the weekend. I quite like what I've ended up with - so much so in fact that I can see myself using it in a number of ways. There's only an admin version at the moment though so I suppose I should knock together a public version so you can see. OK, now that's done the next 2 things needs to be 1. allow for the addition of image-specific paragraphs, (using the core CMS so that the content is easily added to a site search function), and 2. something that I've forgotten but will probably come back to me while I'm looking into 1.
Gallery stage 1 complete
The new gallery has now reached a stage where it's working and I can leave it alone, once I've put a site-wide link to it somewhere. I dare say I'll be tinkering with it again in a day or so as I'd quite like to upload the best photographs from our recent holiday in Germany and while the image-related components are complete at some stage I'll need to add some simple control mechanisms to help organise the gallery into collections and to order the images themselves.
Meanwhile... back to work.
