.uk domain names

.uk domain names are a popular choice for UK residents and businesses, for use with email accounts and websites.

Registration

The main register of .uk domain names is maintained by a not-for-profit organisation called Nominet. Nominet has over 2,800 members that can register .uk domains. If you're not sure about who to use to register your chosen domain name, there is a full list of Nominet tag-holders available online at the following address:

Some domain name registrars offer fees little above cost but you'll often need to be prepared to set-up email accounts and websites yourself when using the cheapest suppliers. We register domains through Nominet member, Heart Internet, and charge £9 per year for .uk and £21 for .com domains including VAT and setting up the domains to work with email and websites.

Our standard registrations are for 2 years. Longer time periods are available for some domains.

Renewal

Most domain name suppliers will send renewal notices and/or invoices 30 days or more before a domain name's expiry date. Some will require confirmation of renewal, while other will renew automatically unless the process is cancelled.

Our standard renewal period is 2 years.

Transfer (.uk)

The Nominet website can be used to transfer the ownership of a .uk domain name. Nominet charge a fee of £10, payable by either the original or the new registrant.

Transfer (.com)

To transfer a .com domain the registrant first request to have the domain unlocked and to be provided with an Auth Code with is then forwarded to the new owner, who then requests the transfer of the domain to their chosen registrar and submits the Auth Code.
